The Serranía de Ronda exhibits one of the most impressive autumn landscapes in the interior of the province of Malaga. The Copper Forest is a metaphor that alludes to the spectacular landscape that nature gives away every year with the fall of the chestnut leaves, covering the mountains in browns, yellows, oranges and ocher.

It is located mainly in the Genal Valley , one of the three major geographical areas (along with the plateau and the Guadiaro Valley) that form the scenic unit of the Serranía de Ronda, with a marked mountainous character. The municipalities that make up the Copper Forest ( Alpandeire , Benadalid , Benalauría , Cartajima , Faraján , Genalguacil , Igualeja , Jubrique , Júzcar , Parauta , Pujerra and Yunquera ) have an enormous tradition around the chestnut. Visiting them at any time of the year is a unique opportunity to discover beautiful landscapes, a tasty gastronomy and numerous festivals, some declared of Tourist Singularity due to their provincial interest.

The Copper Forest is not a public place but the chestnut groves are private farms that support a large part of the population of the area. Therefore, we invite you to explore them with your eyes, to photograph it from the existing viewpoints or from the municipalities themselves and, if what you want is to enter this Forest, we suggest you use the local trails or long-distance ones, as is the case of the Gran Senda de Ronda (GR 141), whose stages 4, 5 and 6 run near the Genal river and the chestnut trees that give its name to the Copper Forest.
